Bonang Matheba has left Metro FM with immediate effect. This follows after Bonang was paired with Lerato Kganyago on her show “The Front Row”.
After the show, the queen took to twitter to let the world know that she has decided to step down as the host of the show. This did not sit well with her front row fans especially the fans of “AskAMan”. Twitter went into overdrive with some saying Bonang is selfish, she doesn’t want the spotlight to shine on other kids, referring to Lerato Kganyago.
“After 3 years of making magic on the Front Row, I can confirm that I have officially stepped down as the host of the show…I will miss my Metro FM family dearly, as they say all good things do come to an end…looking forward to the next chapter of my radio life.”
Neo Mmethi, @REALNEOM reacted to the news of the Queen B leaving by saying “If it’s true that Bonang is leaving the Metro FM then they should take LKG to the drive and then give Masechaba the brunch slot”.
Some Metro FM listeners have threatened to stop listening to Metro FM, @DineoNYC said, “Phat Joe, Tbo Touch, Unathi, Glen Lewis, Bonang, Dj Sbu, Paul, Sammy, Refilwe. All gone guys, I have no choice but to switch to Kaya FM bye Metro FM”.
The only show reshuffle that people have reacted really well to is the Fresh Breakfast team show. Dj Fresh was a new addition to the station with Somizi Mhlongo “Somgaga” moved from the “whose show is it anyway” where he co presented with Khanyi Mbau and Ntombi Mzolo. The rest of the team (Angie Khumalo on the news, Mpho Maboi on sports) was Metro FM’s regulars and it is going pretty well.
Bonang however has continued to voice out her heartbreak over the reshuffling of her former show by saying, “My heart is broken. I was told about the changes to my show an hour before going on air today. Thank you for all the love. Really appreciate it. ” said Bonang.
Lerato Kganyago has not said anything regarding Bonang’s departure. The only tweet she has posted is “Sunday World is cancelled for the year. That pic is trending in my WhatsApp! I feel so disrespected!” she said referring to the pic that Sunday World used for their article headlined “Metro FM reshuffle: Lerato Kganyago and Bonang join forces”, which was written before Bonang decided to resign.
It is not clear whether Bonang was dissatisfied with the changes or with her co-host. Whatever the issue may be, Bonang has promised fans that she will be back on radio really soon because radio is her first love.
