According to KwaZulu-Natal official twitter page, the MEC has obtained in honors in Public Administration cum laude.

Zikalala took over as ANC provincial chair person from Senzo Mchunu in a fiercely contested provincial congress in 2015.

Zikalala won the position with 780 from while Mchunu who received 675 votes. A total of 1 459 delegates voted.

KZN, the ANC’s largest province, was divided over its support for Mchunu and Zikalala.

At the time, it was understood that if Zikalala won, the ANC was more likely to elect a woman president at its 2017 elective conference. Zikalala has been a vocal supporter of President Jacob Zuma despite calls for him to step down. Zuma has been calling for radical economic transformation and land expropriation without compensation which Zikalala is believed to be in support of Zuma’s call.

“As KwaZulu-Natal, our proposition is expropriation of land with no compensation,” the Business Day reported. “If we don’t agree on expropriation, we will have to take a view of ensuring that we mobilize for a referendum.’’

One of South Africa’s biggest social housing developments, the Aloe Ridge development in Westgate Grange was opened over the past weekend. The opening of the project was officiated by president Jacob Zuma among other political dignitaries including Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs MEC Sihle Zikalala.
