Gunning For International Stages

Lerato Rakubu (22), is a singer from the Suburbs of Seshego Zone 4 near Polokwane, Limpopo. She was raised by a single parent but she mentioned that she had a close relationship with her grandmother who was very God fearing.

Her grandmother’s relationship with God allowed Lerato to have a close relationship with God a s well. She says that growing up in church gave her a lot of opportunities to participate in church activities such as spiritual dances and obviously singing and that is when she discovered her talent and passion.

“I then started rendering items confidently at a very young age every Sunday. I would listen to Gospel music and go sing at church. I remember a day where I sang a song I heard from a family function about my great grandmother that wasn’t Gospel, I was removed from the stage but yet that didn’t bring me down,” she said.

Apart from music she attends drum lesson to be more versatile in music. She is also studying towards a Diploma in Civil engineering and she also fits art theatres for entertainment and to watch new and fresh talent.

She is currently involved in Sunday Sessions with a musical band that has a lot of rhythm called Charle bass band. She works with a producer and DJ called Lesmatiq whom she is recording a single with.

“I am inspired by the love and understanding of music itself. Music touches people in many ways and to see people enjoying my singing when I am on stage that alone is inspiring and makes me want to do more,” she explained.

She is also inspired by Prince KB because hearing his story about the struggles he went through before his big break motivates and touches her. The stories of how he started out bring homeless and broke with just a dream he is holding to keeps her going.

She would love to work with Keke Tselapedi because she grew up listening to his music. She would also love to work with Afrotraction, Lira and Moneoa because of their originality and uniqueness.

“I would like to study further in my field of engineering and I want to establish myself for a career in music. I will release an album one day and I will definitely be gunning for international stages.
