Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter on Monday named his 25-man squad to face Cape Verde in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Baxter made four changes to the squad as 34-year-old Supersport United defender Morgan Gould returns to the national team setup, after a long time away.

Midfielders Thulani Serero and Daylon Klaasen were also called upon, as was striker Bradley Grobler.

South Africa take on Cape Verde on 1 September at the Estadio Nacional Stadium in Cape Verde.

“It was important that we retain the bulk of the squad for the sake of continuity. We would have wanted to see some more players, but, on the other hand, it is crucial that we don’t tamper much with a winning side – if it ain’t broken, why fix it?,” said Baxter on the Safa website.

“I am confident that we will do well with this side because if you think about it, this will be a continuation of the work we did in the last camp against Nigeria – too many changes will mean all the work we did in the previous match would have been thrown away.”

The return fixture is set to be played out at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on 5 September.

The Squad:

Goalkeepers: Khune, Williams, Keet.

Defenders: Mphahlele, Mathoho, Coetzee, Gould, Hlatshwayo, Mobara, Hlanti, Langerman.

Midfielders: Kekana, Dolly, Jali, Mokotho, Zungu, Zwane, Serero, Furman, Claasen.

Forwards: Manyama, Tau, Rantie, Grobler, Erasmus.
