Acting crime intelligence head Pat Mokushane has been fired.
His termination letter was signed on Thursday, according to an internal memo.
There was no official reason given for the termination but there have been numerous reports that Mokushane has a criminal record. He also allegedly dipped into the crime intelligence unit’s slush fund and operated a business from work.
He has denied these claims.
Acting national police commissioner Lesetja Mothiba will be overseeing the work of the crime intelligence until further notice.
Mothiba appointed Mokushane to the position in June.
He has served in the South African Police Service for 23 years.
