ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says supporters must steer clear from factionalism.
Mantashe was addressing a mini rally in the Dullah Omar region in Cape Town – ahead of the upcoming bi-election on Wednesday.
He also visited the Holy Cross Church and prayed for unity in the ANC.
Despite political infighting in the Dullah Omar region, ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe said the party will do well in the upcoming bi-election.
“There is a bi-election in ward 37 and we want to win ward 37 by a vast majority. That is why we are doing everything to reach out to people where they are and actually talk to them about the by election. The church is not less important when you do that work because the church is where people assemble.” said Gwede Mantashe, ANC Secretary General.
Mantashe said he will also meet with the family of the Late Dullah Omar.
Last month, the Omar family distanced itself from the party.
They asked for the late Justice Minister’s name to be removed.
“We are going to meet the family and talk about that because comrade Dullah was a public representative and a leader and by virtue of the work he was doing he became public property,” he said
Mantashe also reprimanded supporters for showing off their preferred candidate of choice for the upcoming ANC leadership battle.
