A 25-year-old man accused of impersonating North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo appeared briefly in the Molopo Regional Court in Mmabatho on Tuesday.
The case against Thato Hangari was postponed to October 27 for pre trial procedures.
He was arrested in Kuruman in the Northern Cape on December 2016,  after he allegedly went around contacting members of the public and government officials pretending to be Mahumapelo, and asking money from them to support poor people in need of financial assistance.
The money he allegedly managed to fleece from people totalled R3,500. Among those he is alleged to have defrauded include Roger Ditse, the head of security at the North West legislature.
