Mbongeni “Oscar” Ndlovu (26) born in Kriel, located in the Mpumalanga province is an Occupational health and Safety graduate that has diverged into Club music. Oscar was born and bred in an area that has surroundings of mines, therefore the initiative of studying Occupational Health and Safety was to create a safe environment and to raise awareness of health hazards. He currently resides in Pretoria and that is where his passion and vehemence for music strongly developed.

Apart from being a club dj, Ndlovu escalates in being a podcaster. He runs a monthly show titled “The Ashamed Hour” which features both national and international artists. The show has had an increased number of downloads globally, under the Deep House charts on Podomatic for exactly three years consecutively.

After being asked why he took a different turn with his career path, Oscar responded “When I left home to pursue my studies, I instantly connected more with music and arriving to the city to experience more of it first-hand changed the ball game.”

“I got a glimpse to observe how artists live, how they form and manage events and I got to learn the significance of making an impact as an artist.

“In between my studies, I noticed the overlay of my passion in music and I knew that is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life,” he explained.

Oscar’s love for music was awakened when he attended a show where an international DJ, Martin Atjazz, was performing. He further mentioned that the experience fuelled a lot of energy as he attended the same event with the “big names in the game” and he chooses being a Club DJ over his qualification.

Oscar explained that he plays soulful/deep house and other alternative music such as ‘Lounge music, Trip hop, Nu-jazz and Break beats.

“I am a versatile individual, hence my collection of music is extremely significant because I ought to make informed decisions about what to present to different audiences”.

Oscar’s driving role model in the music field is Vinny Da Vinci. He admires how this particular artist has paved paths for young artists, which never goes unnoticed. Oscar also mentioned that he works with artists that he looks up to on a regular basis and he would one day love to associate himself with Fistaz Mixwell and learn how he does/approaches things.

Throughout his new formed career in music, Ndlovu has worked with the likes of Vinny Da Vinci, China, Malankane, Ralf Gum, DJ Ganyani, DJ Shimza, Avant Garde Troupe, Tim White, June Jazzin, Rich Medina, Dj Christos and many others.

Oscar mentioned in advice to upcoming Dj’s “[e]ducating yourself and securing a future beforehand then thereafter being a DJ is an option. It helps with finding the art itself; buying music, moving around to conduct research and to observe how other artists create their work.

“Basically educating yourself to be a better and informed artist and also investing in equipment or as studio,” Oscar added.

In conclusion, Oscar marked the end of his interview by stating that one has to ensure that their brand is solid and bankable as it creates an unforgettable mark in the industry to certain brands that might want you to be their ambassador.
