Before the biggest match in South Africa, the Soweto Derby, SA’s Masters & Legends Football Association (SAMLFA) will be hosting a lunch which will include South African football legends. The lunch will be held at South African Football Association (SAFA) house in Johannesburg (NASREC).
The likes of Pollen Ndlanya, Jerry Sikhosana, Cyril Nzama, Thabo Mooki, Gardener Seale, Ronny Zondi, Sunday Masegela, Lucas Radebe, Phil Masinga, Magents Motale and a host of other legends will be talking about playing in the famous Soweto Derby and about the rivalry that still exists today between them, despite hanging up their boots some time back already.
The aim of the lunch is to launch a program that recognize the contribution made by retired and past football players since the dawn of professional football in the country.
According to Buddha Mathathe, SAMLFA President, “the lunch will give guests an insight as to what happens on Derby Day and how families are split when it comes to supporting their favorite teams and players even putting their friendship on hold for weeks”.
SAMLFA will also launch the ‘Partner a Legend Coaching Project’, as well as the inaugural ‘Football Legends Awards’ at the event. The lunch will be held at SAFA house in NASREC and guests will thereafter take a short walk to the FNB Stadium to watch the derby.
