After a massive storm that attacked Durban on Tuesday, the Democratic Alliance(DA) extends its sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. The storm affected five largest hospitals in the city and two people died when Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital’s wall collapsed.
The DA has also written to the KwaZulu-Natal Health Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Dr Yusuf Bhamjee, to request that he insists on an urgent report from the province’s health department following infrastructure damage.
The facilities affected include Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital, Addington, King Edward VIII central hospital, Wentworth and King Dinizulu Hospitals.
“The many KZN citizens reliant on government healthcare are already suffering the ill-effects of a Department that is on the verge of collapse due to ongoing corruption and mismanagement. It is untenable that this situation should become any worse,” Dr Imran Keeka, DA KZN Spokesperson on Health said.
“What matters now is what KZN Health MEC, Sibongiseni Dhlomo, and his Department do to restore services as quickly as possible”. he continued.
The DA expects a response from Chairperson Bhamjee. To ensure that the report is forthcoming from the Department of Health.
