After the African National Congress (ANC) failed to secure a motion of no confidence vote against Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba and speaker Vasco da Gama during Wednesday’s council meeting agenda, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has organised a march in support of Mashaba.

The ANC had pushed for its motion to be heard first thing Wednesday morning, in claims that ever since Mashaba got on board there have been mismanagement in the City but it failed to push him step out on Wednesday.

The ANC claims that under Mashaba’s leadership, Johannesburg residences are receiving poor service delivery and there has been a lot of corruption reported within the City.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says a motion of no confidence against Mashaba and Da Gama will only be discussed on Thursday on a debate and they are in support of Mashaba.

Mashaba says he’s going into Thursday’s motion against him and Da Gama undiscouraged “The decision on whether I must be the executive mayor or not wasn’t mine. The decision was taken by 52% of the councilors they should decide whether I go or not, not the ANC who was voted out of power,”

The DA has organised a march in trying to secure Mashaba’s position as Mayor in the theme; #handsOffMashaba.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane is expected to lead the march in Johannesburg in support of the government lead by Mashaba on Thursday morning.

The mayor addressed his supporters that gathered at Paul Roos Park who will be marching to the City Council chambers this morning saying the ANC wants to continue hiding in their corruption and he will not allow it.
