With only one day left to reopening of Schools on Wednesday, possibilities are of that, the Hoërskool Overvaal will be prevented from operating, and threats were made by angry parents that the school will be burned.

On Monday the Gauteng Department of Education along with the Hoërskool  Overvaal appeared at the Pretoria High court over the admission of 55 english learners.

Judge Bill Prinsloo has ruled that the Afrikaans medium school does not have the capacity to enroll additional number of English pupil in Afrikaans school.

According to the statement that was revealed, the educational MEC has acted unlawfully by the decision of admitting additional learners whereas there are English-medium schools in the Vereeniging area with sufficient capacity.

With the statement that was revealed by the educational MEC Panyaza lesufi who has labelled the school as being racist, he expected the judge to be fair on the ruling of granting access to the 55 learners in the school, as the learners are the permanent residence within the area.

The MEC says the department will appeal to the ruling, by taking the matter to the constitutional court.

“Let the Constitutional court legalise racism, let the constitutional court say you are wrong in requesting our children to study, sing and dance together.” said Lesufi

With parents planning on disrupting the teaching and learning on the first day of schooling, the Schools attorney Werner Human has planned on taking the necessary security measures to protect the school premises and its learners.
