The aspiring Bonga Madonsela (25) aka DJ Masonic is a DJ and producer and POW Academy graduate who hails from KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). Rooted with his rich Zulu culture, he has been influenced by well-known South African artists who are doing very well in the music scene.
Born in KwaHlathi, Ezihlabathini in the KZN, Bonga was inspired by DJ Tira, who sparked his passion for producing and mixing. After producing his hit tracks “Drum Pre-Tech” in 2013 and “Let’s Dance” in 2016 both tracks landed a spot on Gagasi FMs play-list.
“The tracks did very well and the response from my fans was much appreciated,” said Masonic. Ukhozi FM also chose his “Let’s Dance” track to be their background song on Jabula Jule’s (Dudu Khoza’s Show). From then onwards he knew that he is talented and it set him off to produce more hits, and “Inyembezi, Durban to Jozi” track followed which was appreciated by his fans.
It is without a doubt that Bonga is determined to succeed in his career and although he has a few challenges he said that, for now he needs a great management team, that would help him deal with his hectic daily schedule because he tends to forget who booked him for studio session since he produces and has to practice his mix sets before his next gig. Also a marketing team that will help him create his brand as an aspiring DJ.
DJ Masonic says that to overcome the minor challenges that he faces along the way, he will continue to work hard like he always has before because, hard work surely pays off. The love and support from his family and friends motivate and drive him to reach even greater heights.
Other South African artists such as the likes of DJ Maphorisa continue to play a very influential role in his career as a DJ. In order to tap into his creative sphere of producing and mixing, Bonga listens to underground producers, and the type of mixes he does is Afro House, Commercial House & Gqom.
“Pride sets him apart from other DJs,” he says. Although he is willing to work on it so that it will not get in his way to get where he wants to be, in the competitive music scene. His short-term goal is to realise another banger before February and says that he is currently working on it. Long-term he said that he would like to grow and own a record label, also would like to have the best dance ward album.
He is working on a love song that will be released on the 14th of February titled “Million Ways of Love” Featuring Songane & Yahmen and Simphiwe at Ghandi Square, Johannesburg; fans should be on the lookout for track. Later on the yearhe will be working alongside Khosi and Brenda he will be set to release his EP.
