Neatball South Africa has announced the team to tackle Australian Diamonds Saturday 20 January in England, in a Quad series. The First leg of the series will take place in England and the second leg will begin 25th of January at Ellis park Arena, Johannesburg.
The Netball Quad Series is a contested of four highest ranked nations in netball and 2018 Netball Quad series will be the fourth. Last years one was won by New Zealand. The series originally referred to as the International Netball Super Series was first introduced to the public in March 2016, when South Africa, New Zealand, England and Australia(SANZEA) announced the schedule for the inaugural series, to be held later that year in mostly New Zealand venues.
SPAR Proteas head coach Norma Plummer said she is very happy with the standards achieved by the players at the training camp.
“It’s always difficult to maintain your fitness at this time of year,” said Plummer.
“There was no club netball over the festive season and the players had to work on their own fitness programs. I was very impressed with the amount of work they were able to put in. They did an excellent job of keeping fit,”she added.
Plummer also expressed her excitement of the came back of Danelle Lochner and Ine-Marí Venter.
“She (Danelle)was in the team for the Under-21 World Cup in Botswana last year, and was included in the training camp after the SPAR National Championships. She forced her way into the team. She is a very strong player and she doesn’t back away,” said Plummer.
“Another player who impressed me was Ine-Marí Venter. She is so much better than she was in the Quad Series last year. She is proof that travelling with the senior players pays off. She looks much more experienced now, and she had the best shooting figures at the training camp,”she added.
The SPAR Proteas leave for London on Tuesday for the English leg of the Quad Series, where they will play the Australian Diamonds on Saturday January 20.
Then the four teams will travel back to South Africa for the South African Leg.
