The two teams will face each other in two fixtures, first in a behind-closed-doors practice match on Thursday, 18 January. This will be followed by an international friendly encounter three days later, Sunday,at the Cape Town Stadium, 14h00.
The Europeans are the second team to have come to the South African to face the Senior Women’s National team the other being The Netherlands.
Banyana Banyana vice-captain, Refiloe Jane says she looking forward to the challenge of the starting of the year.
“This game against Sweden ids an important one for Banyana Banyana, it’s a good way to start the year every time we have to play a team of Sweden’s calibre one has to pull up their socks,” Jane Said.
“ Such games they help us to improve as a nation you know, it’s no use playing lowering teams when we not goner benefit from them, so playing Sweden came at a right time it’s a good way to start a year,” she added.
Sweden Women’s National Team says they are proud to have been invited to come and play in South Africa against Banyana Banyana.
“I am very proud to be here in South Africa, a country with a great history and a man that is known the world over, Nelson Mandela. We hope that we will have an opportunity to educate the team about the history of South Africa. I am also proud to meet the best women’s team in Africa,” Sweden head coach Peter Gerhardsson addressing the media in Cape Town.
