The South African Netball team fought very hard but the World Champions were a much better team then they were, Spar Proteas were thrashed by Australia 54-50 in their SANZEA Quad Series Match in London.
The Proteas were 26-25 ahead when the halftime ended , which forced the Australian Diamonds to step up a gear in last few minutes to clinch a neat victory.
Australia won the first quarter 15-12, but the Proteas were never going to let the Diamonds get away very easy, with a goal different not being more then four goal.
with just two minutes left in the second quarter, goal-shooter Lenize Potgieter scored to bring the Proteas level on 24-all. The two teams then exchanged goals, then with 20 seconds lefts the Proteas were ahead 26-25 ahead at half time, winning the second quarter by 14-10.
Final Quarter the Australians were ready to settle the score as they were dominating this round, Midway through the quarter they drew 45-all. The Australians had to show why they are the World Champions as they fought hard in the final five minutes of the Match, pulling away from the Proteas with a successive five unanswered goals. The match then ended with Australians being on 54 and Proteas being 4 goals behind with 50.
Coach Norma Plummer said she was delighted with her teams perfomance,
” we used to lose by 50 goals,” she said.
” The top teams need to look out- South Africa is right up there with them,” she added.
