The Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Shadow MEC for Education, Khume Ramulifho MPL is expected to conduct an oversight visit at the Fine Town Secondary School in Ennerdale South on Tuesday in relation to overcrowding in schools amongst other things.
Following actions made by parents of learners at the school which resulted to them disrupting the learning process last week Wednesday, demanding challenges faced by the school to be addressed by the department; the DA took it to themselves to intervene and try to come up with a solution to the problem.
According to a statement provided by the DA, the school is facing severe challenges that include a shortage of desks, chairs, and overcrowding in classrooms.
The school uses containers as classrooms for teaching and learning in the school which are also believed to be old and dilapidated.
“The parents are demanding that the container classrooms must be replaced with a brick and mortar structure as the department had promised over 8 years ago,” said the DA.
The DA will inspect the school infrastructure and assess the challenges faced by the school, which they will thereafter channel to the Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi for his intervention.
