The Gauteng Education Department MEC Panyaza Lesufi has made promises to place Grade 1 and Grade 8 pupils who have not yet been admitted to various schools within the Gauteng Province.

Since the start of the 2018 academic year, the departmemt has been struggling to place thousands of pupils as it has received over 13,000 new applications in the past 2 weeks.

The learners who have applied on time were not placed, as they applied on high pressure areas which resulted in shortage of space.

Lesufi says, he is pleased with the changes made, by reducing the number of unplaced grade 1 and grade 8 pupils, as it has reduced from over 28,000 at the start of the 2018 academic year leaving over 3,000 unplaced.

“Out of the 28,000 that was unplaced and the new 13,155 that we received, we have placed all those particular learners, save 3, 366.”

Lesufi has made promises to place those left behind and has urged all parents to accept offers of placements from schools with available space.
