Following a rumoured two failed bids by the English football club, Arsenal have finally managed to bag 28-year-old Gabon striker, Pierre Emerick Aubameyeng (Auba), for an undisclosed “club–record fee” on Wednesday.
Aubameyang expressed his delight at his three and-a-half year deal with the Gunners and shared his hopes of emulating Arsenal’s record goal scorer Thierry Henry.
“I’m happy to be here in this great team,” Aubameyang told the club’s website.
“I think the club have such a big history with great players like Thierry Henry, so it’s an example for us strikers… he was fast and scored a lot of goals. I have to work to be like him, but I will do.”
The 2016 Bundisliga player of the year recipient, Aubameyang makes his move from German club, Borussia Dortmund with a formidable goal scoring reputation of 141 scored goals in 213 games including 21 goals in 24 matches this season, and the 2017 Garman Cup under his belt.
Auba’s reputation as an all-time goal scorer also includes the first Gabonese winner of the African Footballer of the Year award in 2015.
