The SACP has called on President Jacob Zuma to deny or confirm “credible” information that he plans to fire Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Zuma should also confirm or deny information that he was planning to replace Ramaphosa with former African Union Commission chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the party said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The party said Zuma’s conduct was “reckless and unacceptable”.
“To that extent, it would be very clear that President Zuma is also determined to divide and destroy the ANC through unrepentant factional conduct,” it said.
The SACP reiterated its call for Zuma to resign and for the ANC to recall him if he refused to step down.
The Presidency has since rejected SACP claims in a statement issued by the spokesperson.
“The allegations reported in the media that President Jacob Zuma wishes to fire Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and replace him with Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma are preposterous and outrageous.”
“The allegations are completely baseless.”
