PRETORIA: SuperSport United, who are the Nedbank Cup defending champions have been dumped out of the competition’s in the first round by Bloemfontein Celtic, mounting pressure on Coach Erick Tinkler who is in his first season at the club.

Tinkler joined Matsatsantsa from Cape Town City after an impressive season at the new franchise at the time. However, his work at his new club has not found stability and rather seems unconvincing that he will spend a long time at the club unless he turns his fortunes around.

Soccer pundits have been pinning Tinkler’s survival and patience form the Pretoria club’s faithful on the fact that he has already delivered  the MTN8 trophy and also led them to the CAF Confederations Cup final already this season and that if that wasn’t the case, he would be under pressure to keep his job.

Matsatsantsa find themselves stuck in a sorry 11th spot in the league after 20 games which they won 6, drew 6 and lost 8, leaving them unquestionably out of reach of challenging for the league title which is something the team have been trying to do for the past seasons. In addition to their league statistics this season, they have only managed to score 19 goals and conceded 23, leaving them with a negative goal difference with only 10 games left to play.

Tinkler has only won one of his five league matches and needs to turn that around and at least get the team a top 8 finish so they can defend their trophy next season. They next travel to Rustenburg to take on table back seat occupiers Platinum Stars next week Tuesday.
