Sport and recreation,Cricket South Africa and Madiba foundation will Launch the Nelson Mandela Centenary Celebrations at the T20 International double header, played by South African Women’s Cricket Team and the South Africa men’s Cricket teams, the Proteas, playing against their Indian counterparts.
The aim of the centenary is to honour the value and the legacy of the first black South African President Nelson Mandela. Both matches will be played at Bidvest Wanderes Staduim on the 18th of February.
The matches will also celebrate the 20 years of a diplomatic relation between South Africa And India.
Thulas Nxesi,Sport and Recreation Minister Highlighted that :
“Nelson Mandela became a strong advocate of sports diplomacy in raising South Africa’s reputation and transforming the perception of South Africa from an apartheid state to a democratic nation. The spirit of Madibaness , the Madiba Magic Moment personified through our sports stars’ excellent performance whilst also uniting our country along the way is a remarkable feature in the history of our sporting achievements. It is in fact these Madiba Magic Moments which we regard as a legacy left to the sporting fraternity. After all the nation continues to unite patriotically when an athlete delivers this Madiba Magic Moment.”
Protea women will play first their match against India women in a T20 clash in the morning(09:45am) it will the be followed by a short highlight of the Nelson Mandela Centenary Celebrations.
Then Protea’s will play their KFC T20 International match against India in the afternoon(14:30pm)
