Limpopo -The South African Police Services (SAPS) in Makhado, Thohoyandou, are searching for suspects who fled with an undisclosed amount of money, after they attacked and blew up a cash-in-transit vehicle along the N1 North of Louis Trichardt on Monday.
According to a statement made by the SAPS, the cash-in-transit vehicle was traveling from Musina when a Toyota Double Cab subsequently started shooting continuously at them.
“The suspects in this matter were traveling with a Toyota Double Cab GT 6 white in colour, a Black M.L Mercedes-Benz, a Dark blue bakkie and a white Mercedes-Benz sedan, they are still unknown and there have been no arrest,” said the SAPS.
The police allege that during the scene, other oncoming vehicles were shooting and aiming at the transit tyres causing the vehicle to come to a standstill.
According to reports, the group of suspects blew up the safe in the security vehicle and raided an undisclosed amount of money before they fled the scene.
The police have confirmed a security officer was shot and injured but there were no fatalities.
Investigations are underway and the police are appealing to anyone with information relating to the incident to report to the police immediately.
