With the whole South African football fraternity in Surprise of Free State Stars’ current league position, most pundits have pinned the transition in the team on Belgian coach Luc Eymael who has transformed the club’s fortunes.
Eymale has lifted Ea lla Koto to the top this season as they are still within the league race as they trail leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by 5 points. They held the Brazilians 1-1 on Wednesday night in a crucial encounter which was influential towards the league championship. The Belgian has turned the Bethlehem club into one of the most difficult teams to beat this season.
The well travelled coach does not hesitate to instil his presence in clubs he coaches as he previously guided Rise and Shine to their first ever top 8 finish in the Premier league while at the club. No wonder CAF Champions league medallist coach Pitso Mosimane speaks highly of him, tagging him as “The Real Deal”.
If Rumours that Kaizer Chiefs are interested in luring the 58 years old to Naturena are anything to go by provided they decide against extending Steve Kompela’s stay at the club, then Kompela should indeed be looking over his shoulder and start making plans for his future. Eymael is probably the leading candidate if Chiefs will want to hire someone who has been working in the PSL.
Reports of interest in the Uganda national team also surfaced for the Belgian coach, something which he dismissed himself but revealed that there have been teams in the PSL who have recently made contact in search of his services but however refused to name them.
