CAPE TOWN: Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral says he is not sweating over suggestions that the PSL disciplinary committee could deduct some points from his team for using Zimbabwean striker Tendai Ndoro.
The issue surrounding Ndoro’s eligibility to play has been a subject for a while now since joining Ajax in the January transfer window. Although there’s a FIFA rule that a player cannot play for three teams in a single season, Ertugral believes he was not wrong to use the player as he was permitted to do that by the league’s governing body.
“People say they might take points, how do we know that? It is hypothetical talk, so let’s see what they do. I personally don’t believe we can be deducted points and I know from my side it won’t happen. The DRC has decided we can use him, so I am going for it. There will be another hearing very soon about it. First the officials said ‘wait, don’t use him’, and we did that. Then the DRC said we can use him, so I am using him. There has been no other letter from the officials to now say not to use him again,” explained Ertugral.
If points are indeed for matches Ndoro took part in, then it would mean the Urban Warriors would lose four points and be in more danger of facing relegation as they currently sit on 15th place, a relegation play off candidate position. The former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs coach went further to say he does not understand the law surrounding the whole situation.
“I spoke to some people internationally and the interpretation doesn’t make sense for me. It should be, if you want to protect the players and the clubs, just under one roof, under one federation, that you are not allowed to play for three teams. Just imagine a player plays one game here, goes to a different part of the world, can’t make it there, doesn’t get paid, so is it fair that the player is now one year off on the sidelines? That is the case we need to think about,” he further expressed.
Pirates and Polokwane City are the teams which handed in the complaints to the PSL DC when they played against Ajax. Ertugral will continue his quest to save his team from relegation when they travel to Lamontville Golden Arrows on Sunday afternoon in an Absa Premiership match.
