Steven Pienaar Hangs His Boots From Football

Former Everton and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Steven Pienaar has announced his retirement from football.

Schillo joined Everton in 2007, after spells with Ajax and Borussia Dortmund, initially signing on loan for one season before making the move permanent.

He made over 150 appearances for the Toffees during two separate stints at the club

Pienaar earned 61 caps for Bafana Bafana, and played at the 2002 and 2010 Fifa World Cups.

Pienaar confirmed his retirement on Sport At 10 on SABC on Wednesday evening.

“Today I’m announcing my retirement from football. I just want to say thanks to my mom, my family, and all the clubs that I’ve played for. And to the supporters of course – how can I forget you!” Pienaar said in a short video on his Twitter account.

“Thanks for all the love throughout my career.

Pienaar’s last played for Bidvest Wits, who terminated his contract barely six months into its existence after struggling to find his form with the Braamfontien outfit.
