PRETORIA: Following his reinstatement as home affairs  minister, Malusi Gigaba says his main priority after returning to the portfolio is to improve client services.

The minister addressed home affairs senior management at the department’s offices in Pretoria on Friday morning.

Newly elected President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed Nhlanhla Nene as the new minister of finance and returned Gigaba back to home affairs last week during the cabinet reshuffle.

Amongst other thing, Gigaba said improving front office management is also one important thing that requires to be attended to immediately.

“One of the things we need to do as a matter of urgency is attend to front office improvements and the modernisation programme so that we have adequate resources,” said Gigaba.

The minister said the department must be re-positioned to play a role in economic development of the country.

“That means supporting our ports of entry and tourism, to ensure we play a role in empowering citizens with documents which will enable them to play an economic role,” he said.
