JOHANNESBURG – Ahead 2019 National and General elections, African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa will be conducting a voter registration drive through visits to various communities in Johannesburg and Tshwane on weekend.
The President has urged first-time voters, especially the youth, to register and for those who are registered to check and verify their registration details.
The Electoral Commission said it is all systems go and over 22 000 voting stations throughout South Africa will be open for registration and verification of details throughout the weekend.
“This is expected to make it easy and convenient for eligible voters who either wish to check and confirm their addresses on the voters’ roll, or to register as voters, this general registration weekend goes to the heart of the preparations for the 2019 national and provincial elections,” said the IEC in a statement.
President Ramaphosa will also visit the voting station at the voting-district in which he is registered to update his registration details.
The IEC has reminded voters to take their green barcoded identification (ID) book, or smart ID card or valid temporary ID certificate when visiting their voting stations.
