Creative in his pursuit for music the, incredible Simamkele Mdanyana(28) better known by his stage name “Sam de DJ” is a producer and DJ. Whose passion for music was discovered in his late teenage years.
All the way from the mountainous landscapes of Bizana in the Eastern Cape, where he was born and raised – for Sam it was not an early epiphany many creative masterminds have where they unravel their musical talents at a young age. His talent was discovered back in 2009 and at that time he was in the south coast of Margate. Little did he know it was the birth of his music career.
While immersed in his music compositions, it led to his first single titled ‘Heart n Soul’, which featured a female vocalist known as Mbali. Sam is a Soulful, Deep and Afro House DJ, his music is incorporated with a variation of creative elements and dynamic beats. The purpose of his music is to depict different scenarios he is faced with on a daily basis.
“Being able to be relatable to my fans is what fulfils me,” says Sam.
Although the road has not always been as smooth and during the course of the journey, there are rough and rocky paths one has to walk through. “I have had my fair share of challenges as a DJ but the one that stands out most is when people don’t want to pay me for the work I have done and not being able to get booked for gigs,” he said.
“What sets me apart from other DJ’s is my style of music and my creative ingenuity,” said Sam.
He is thankful for the support of his family, friends and his faith that always gets him through when days are dark. When visiting other music genres he prefers to listen to Jazz and occasionally enjoys cartoons during his free time from the studio.
“My long-term goal is to inspire and show the younger generation that nothing is impossible,” he said.
He is currently working on an EP that is set to drop at the end of May 2018. It will feature artists from South Africa and the United Kingdom.
