JOHANNESBURG- Traffic Officials already taking stern measures in place ahead of Easter long weekend Holiday.
On weekend, Over 200 motorists have been arrested in Johannesburg for drunk driving.
According to the statics revealed, the year 2017 on Easter long weekend holiday has the highest number of accidents were the road death increased by 50 percent mostly who were pedestrians, followed by passengers at 24 percent and drivers at 19 percent.
According to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar said, the motorists were arrested as part of the operation ahead of Eater Weekend.
“We want to appeal to motorists to take it easy especially on the road to Limpopo going to Moria and those to KwaZulu-Natal,” she said.
Drivers should stick to the speed limit, not consume alcohol and to not drive over 2 hours,” she concluded
The arrested suspects will be expected to appear in Court today.
Furthermore Last week, the newly appointed Transport Minister, Blade Nzimande launched the Easter Long Weekend Campaign.
The aim is to reduce drinking and driving to all motorist approaching Easter, and increase driver awareness by reducing road accidents for the coming holiday period.
