GAUTENG – The South African Police Services (SAPS) in Gauteng has reported that it made more than 1000 arrests during the Easter weekend through several roadblocks and search operations all around the province.
“Over the long weekend crime prevention operations resulted in one hundred and thirty-one (131) arrests out of more than 1000 people were effected for drug related crimes that includes cocaine powder, crystal meth, heroine, mandrax, dagga and nyaope. Commercial explosives, firearms and ammunition, stolen vehicles and other stolen goods were seized,” said the SAPS.
The arrested are expected to appear at the various Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday and Wednesday for charges of murder, attempted murder, assault with grievous bodily harm, rape and sexual assaults, malicious damage to property, possession of drugs, possession of firearms and ammunition and other crimes.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange has applauded the members of the public who contributed to the arrest of people involved in criminal activities and also urged members of the public to continue to report any suspicious people and vehicles in the province.
