JOHANNESBURG: Zuma has been spotted in the economy class on a normal airline with Simon Hodgson

Former President Jacob Zuma flew to Johannesburg on Wednesday to visit late stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s home in Soweto to pay his respect. Hodgson, the founder and owner of LOVE SA Music, posted a picture of himself and Zuma smiling on a Kulula airline.

Hodgson’s friends on Facebook had both positive and negative comments towards Zuma.

One user couldn’t hold his disbelief that the two shared a moment of light, “???? Are you for real…” the user said. Hodgson replied and said, 100%??.

Another user was curious to know if there was silence or they talked, if so, what were they talking about. “Haha…no ways!!! I want to know what you spoke about…or was it more of an awkward silence?”

But Hodgson appeared to have no dull moment during the 50 minutes flight to Johannesburg. He said Zuma even joked about his son, Duduzane Zuma. Duduzane has been running away from the Hawks for his involvement in State Capture with the Gupta family.

“No awkward silence at all. He even joked about the son I’d definitely know of, Duduzane?. Haha we had 50mins of chatting the whole way. He was actually super pleasant, even shared his mints and Pringles with me, and Matt shared his Easter eggs with him. Talked about a previous time we had met, his family, his time he has just spent at Winnie’s home, nkandla (which is where he was going) lots of chatting?,” said Hodgson.

Not all users share positive comments for Hodgson’s old friend. One user was persistent and criticising Hodgson for having to smile with Zuma. He quoted Abraham Lincoln to show his disapproval for what Hodgson did, “To sin by silence, when we should protest, makes cowards out of men.” But other users defended Hodgson by saying, “Simon is a nice guy. He’s not going to go be an Ass to him (sic).”

“Another user also weigh in favour of Hodgson, “What purpose would it serve to be rude to him? Is he suddenly going to change his ways, because some rando on a plane gave him a good telling off? There’s times to confront, and other times to share Pringles and get the funniest story of the year on your Facebook.”

“And also, I’ve heard it said many, many times, of both zuma, (and Mugabe), both of which I hate personally, that people who hated them and met them in person, thinking they’re gonna give them a good uit-kak, walk away with smiles because he’s so damn charming. It is of course his job to be likeable, and that he is very good at,” added the user.

However, another one user make a hilarious comment about Zuma. “If you had a chat with the devil, he would also appear to be “super pleasant”, I once met slimeball (sic) Zuma, after we shook hands, I counted my fingers to see if they were still there.”

Zuma resigned on 14 February as the president of South Africa and is now facing 16 charges of corruption, money laundering and racketeering.

Just this past weekend, the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, made social media headlines after his Economy flight from Johannesburg to Durban on Good Friday morning.
