MBOMBELA: Following their recent dent against SuperSport United in their quest to clinch the league title, is Orlando Pirates still have what it takes in their locker to keep up with Mamelodi Sundowns?
The Sea Robbers played out a goalless draw against Matsatsantsa for the second time this season. Pirates has this time around provened to be detrimental to their title ambitions as they know they cannot afford to be dropping points at this stage of the season.
The draw means that Micho’s team are now on 46 points, three points behind the Brazilians and having played a game more to make the title chase now to seem unfavourable for them. Sundowns will now be feeling the league trophy edging closer and closer to Chloorkop.
If Pirates fail to come back with three points in their next league match against 11th placed AmaZulu, then they may have to start facing reality that they would have lost out to the league title to Pitso Mosimane’s side who have marvelled in the pressure of challenging for the title.
The Brazilians will be in action on Saturday when they host reigning league champions Bidvest Wits who are in 10th place. If they do manage to get a victory over the students, then that would mean they would have stretched their lead to 6 points over Pirates having played an equal number of games.
The Buccaneers will be on the road again when they travel to the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon and will hope for a positive result to keep themselves in the race for the title.
