PSL’s Old Legs Who Showed They Still Got It

JOHANNESBURG: With the current 2017/2018 season nearing its conclusion, there are a number of old faces who showed they still have what it takes to compete in the country’s top flight football.

Here are some of the players with 35 years plus who played this season:

Teko Modise (35 Years, Cape Town City)

The midfielder who will turn 36 on 22 December started his career at Ria Stars back in 2001. He went on to further play for City Pillars, SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns before joining Cape Town City.

He has been in fine form for the citizens this season and has in many occasions been named Man of the Match. It seems “The General” keeps getting younger and younger.

Moneeb Josephs (37 Years, Bidvest Wits)

The veteran keeper became his career with Cape Town Spurs in 1997 and went on to play for Ajax Cape Town, Pirates and Bidvest Wits twice. He has not had a good season though as his team never put on a fight in defence of their league title.

Siyabonga Nomvethe (40 years, AmaZulu)

Bhele is the oldest player in the PSL. He started his career with African Wanderers in 1997 before joining Kaizer Chiefs. He had spells in Italy and Sweden before returning to the country with Moroka Swallows in 2009. He is still an important member in Cavin Johnson’s AmaZulu and always delivers. 

Mabhuti Khanyeza (35 Years,AmaZulu)

Khanyeza who turns 36 on 17 June has played for almost all the big clubs in South Africa. He has featured for the likes of SuperSport United, Sundowns, Chifes, Ajax, Golden Arrows, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Maritzburg City – where he started in 2001.

He remains an instrumental figure at AmaZulu and always puts on a good show when in action. He also scored against Sundowns in a 2-1 victory over them.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane (35 Years, SuperSport United)

“Yeye” who turns 36 on June 9 has shown he still has what it takes to live up to his name. He has although endured a difficult season as his team are in the relegation battle. He started at Hellenic in 2002 and went on to play for Dangerous Darkies, PJ Stars, Jomo Cosmos and Chiefs.
