PIETERMARITZBURG: Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids has expressed his jubilation and praise for his charges after the club qualified for their first ever cup final in the Club’s history.

The Team of Choice progressed to this season’s Nedbank Cup final after coming from a goal down to give Mamelodi Sundowns a 3-1 hiding. They will meet Free State Stars on 19 May at the Cape Town Stadium to determine who will be crowned the 2017/2018 Nedbank Cup champions.

Davids could not be any more proud of his players who have had a stellar season. They find themselves up in third position on the league standings and are on the brink of qualifying for the continental Caf Confederations Cup for the first time in the club’s history yet again.

“We shouldn’t be too flattered with the score, the main thing is that we are through to the final for the first time in the Club’s history. I’m so proud of the players and the amount of effort that they put in, not only today but from the beginning of the season. From the first day of the pre-season.”

“I hope that they can start believing how good they are. I’ve been telling them since the first game of the season, start believing how good you really are. Tacitly, they follow instructions to the tee. That is what it is about,” said Davids after the game.

The coach will hope his side can be once again up to the task as they will play the Brazilians on Wednesday night at home in league duties in a first versus third affair.
