DURBAN: Mosimane revealed after their Nedbank Cup loss to Maritzburg United that he is more concerned about winning the league title than he would have loved to win the cup.
The Brazilians suffered a 3-1 humiliation at the hands of Fadlu Davids’ side to be deprived of a spot in this year’s final. Pitso Mosimane’s Sundowns are in pole position to clinch the title as they are six points clear of Orlando Pirates with three games remaining.
“What is important? The league, where you have played 27 games and to finish on top or the Nedbank Cup, where you have played four games, what is your priority. I’m not saying that because we lost, we want to win, but what is bigger? The league!
So we need to try again, we controlled the game in the second half. There was never a problem for us. It is the red card for Sirino, that’s the way the referee saw that, so we should accept it,” said Mosimane after the game.
“Congratulations to Maritzburg United. They deserve it more than us. They need the cup, we need the league. Not to say we didn’t want the cup, we wanted the cup, but you can’t get everything,” he added.
Sundowns will be paying the Team of Choice at the same venue on Wednesday night in an Absa Premiership encounter where they may put one hand on the title if they win the game.
