A century by Jiveshen Pillay and a six-wicket haul by Gideon Peters secured a massive, 162-run victory for Assupol Tuks over Yorkshire Cricket Club on the second day of the Momentum National Club Championships in Pretoria on Monday.
Pillay hit 113 from 127 deliveries (10 fours, two sixes), while Peters bagged an exceptional 6/34 as Tuks shot to the top of the competition log, beating out North West University Pukke on net run rate.
The Multiply Titans’ representatives posted 311/9 after being put in to bat first by Yorkshire. Niel Brand smashed a 66-ball 72, followed by Ruan de Swardt, who returned unbeaten for a notable 43 off 32.
Yorkshire, who represent the VKB Knights this week, were bowled out for a meagre 149 thanks to chief destroyer, Peters. Migael Pretorius chipped in with 2/14 as Tuks registered their win with nine overs to spare.
Wellington CC beat Fort Hare by six wickets in spite of a well-fought 83 by veteran Jerry Nqolo.
Curtley Louw was impressive, taking 3/23 in eight overs, including a maiden, while Aubrey Philander claimed 2/27 to help the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras representatives restrict the Warriors reps to 178/6 at the end of their allotted overs. Simthembile Langa was the second-highest run contributor for Fort Hare, hitting a sedate 33 from 67 (2 fours).
It was a top order affair to reach the target for Wellington. Moshin Khan (34 off 53) and Warren Groeneveld (26 off 73) got the innings off to a solid start with a 63-run opening stand. Edward Small was 48 not-out, while Louw added 28 on top of his three wickets to help finish them off.
Finally, at Memorial Park, Katlego Leokaoke (4/18) and Julian Soutter (3/21) shared seven wickets between them to help Pukke (bizhub Highveld Lions) to a comprehensive, 81-run victory over the Hollywoodbets Crusaders (Hollywoodbets Dolphins) from KwaZulu-Natal.
