CAPE TOWN: The Democratic Alliance (DA) have confirmed cessation of Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille’s membership.
Senior DA members were providing feedback on the de Lille saga, and what their next steps will be regarding the ongoing matter between the party and the Cape Town mayor. They have since confirmed that her membership has been rescinded.
The DA council chair James Selfe explains that according to the DA’s constitution, if a member publicly declares their intention to resign from the party, their membership ceases. De Lille is reportedly to have done this in an interview on April 26 with a talk radio host, Eusebius Mckaiser on Radio702.
De Lille last week had to provide reasons to the party’s top decision-making body as to why she should not resign.
Tension between her and the party are at boiling point since she was accused of a rash of allegations, among them, misconduct and bringing the organisation into disrepute.
