NEWCASTLE – Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez beliefs that the current squad of Liverpool will win the famous Champions League triumph in Kiev come Saturday night.
Benitez guided the Merseyside club to a famous 2005 UCL victory in Istanbul, by beating AC Milan 3-2 on penalties, following a 3-3 draw after 120 minutes of football.
“We achieved what we achieved. They talk about the ‘Miracle of Istanbul’ but this team is better,” Benitez told British media
The 2005 UCL final, Liverpool had players like Steven Garrard, Xabi Alonso and Dietmar Hamann in middle of the park, But the Newcastle manager believes that Juergen Klopp’s squad are better enough than the previous squad in 2005.
“We had Stevie, of course, also some players with experience and quality… we had players who worked very hard, we had a good balance,” Newcastle United boss Benitez, who also had a stint at Real Madrid, added.
“This team also has good balance, but the front three can make a difference on their own. We had one player who maybe could make a difference on his own, and here they have three.
“If we talk about the money spent, my budget was 20 million pounds ($26.82 million). The value of this team is so much higher,” the Spaniard added
Liverpool will try to upset Zinedine Zidane who is looking for a third successive Champions league as a Real Madrid Manager.
