JOHANNESBURG: With Kaizer Chiefs being the most wounded team in the past three years in South Africa’s topflight, they have to make key signings to bring back the glory days at Naturena.
Amakhosi have started their restructuring process by firing misfiring Steve Komphela, with a set of players also to be shown the exit door and new players expected to join them.
Here are the five 5 key players in Chiefs’ restructuring.
The Liberian winger has not had it good under Pitso Mosimane and has been linked with a move to Chiefs for years. Perhaps this is the best time to sign the player who has won it all.
Jali is probably the biggest piece of the jigsaw. Since Reneilwe Letsholonyane joined SuperSport United, Willard Katsande has had more to do. With Jali in the middle, Chiefs midfield can be a terrorist once again for opponents.
Amakhosi have lost a good goalkeeper in Brilliant Khuzwayo and will need to fill that void left by his departure. The young Ajax keeper should be their main target, considering Ajax are ‘relegated’ to the National First Division.
Chiefs need a versatile defender who has been around for a while and has achieved. With “Mr cool” set to leave Mamelodi Sundowns, Chiefs should capitalise and sign the former Bloemfontein Celtic defender to work with Erick Mathoho.
Chiefs are known to be a team of style and signing the Maritzburg United star will add a much needed vibe to their team going into next season as he possess the skill that made chiefs the brand they are.
