JOHANNESBURG: If you have a love for theatre and are interested in storytelling, go check out Woza Albert!
Woza Albert! returns to the Joburg Theatre for a limited season during Youth Month. Presented by Percy Mtwa, Mbongeni Ngema and Barney Simon, Woza Albert! will be staged on The Fringe Theatre stage from June 1 to 17.
It remains one of the most vibrant examples of satirical anti-apartheid South African theatre.
Woza Albert! is a school set-work in the South African GDE school curriculum and the theatre piece is a good tool for audience development while assisting schools with their school curriculum.
The play was written in the Apartheid era, as a form of protest theatre, which was confrontational. It brought up the sensitive subjects of Apartheid, such as inequality.
It touches on a lot of sensitive issues which need addressing. It also portrays a time in South Africa where the only thing people could turn to was religion. Be sure to check out this show and learn more about the history of South Africa.
