Prasa Appoints Former eThekwini Manager As New Group CEO

JOHANNESBURG: Former eThekwini Municipality city manager Sibusiso Sithole has been appointed as the new CEO of Prasa.

He was a city manager for eThekwini Municipality until he was force to leave his position by the embattled Mayor Zandile Gumede.

The decision‚ announced at a media conference‚  it was said it was “to allow the process of appointing his replacement to proceed smoothly”.

Sithole and Gumede held a joint media briefing, where the latter denied that Sithole had been suspended or placed on leave. Gumede said the move to accelerate Sithole’s contract to allow for continuity since he [Sithole] was also an applicant.

Sithole‚ whose five-year contract as head of the city administration ends on December 31‚ was reportedly told by Gumede to take leave until the end of the month. Sithole‚ citing municipal processes‚ defied the order.

Meanwhile, Prasa has been given Sithole a 12-month contract effective as of 1 June.

According to a Prasa statement, Sithole has been brought in to “bring stability and certainty to Prasa”.

Prasa’s spokesperson Nana Zenani says that he will focus on cleaning up the organisation.

“The incoming group CEO will be focusing on the strategic turnaround plan on stabilising the business from an operational point of view that everything goes according to plan. he’s hit the ground running.”
