PRETORIA: SuperSport United are reportedly still pursuing the signature of Orlando Pirates assistant coach Rhulani Mokwena.
Matsatsantsa have been without a permanent coach after parting ways with Erick Tinkler earlier in the season. Tinkler’s departure made United to have a horrible season as they were locked in the relegation battle until the last round of the season.
With no much options in the country at the moment, Mokwena’s name is one at the top in list of coaches one can need to rebuild a team. Immediately after the season, United publicly indicated that they were interested in bringing Mokwena to their club.
Mokwena’s star has risen over the years in where he was present in the dominating Mamelodi Sundowns regime under Pitso Mosimane where they even went on to win the CAF Champions League. He then went to join Orlando Pirates in a time when they needed inspiration.
Mokewena has however indicated that he is not keen on a move away from the Buccaneers as he sees a long term future at the club that is tradition to his home. But that has however not stopped SuperSport in trying with all their might to lure the man who has the brains for football.
It will remain as a matter of time to see whether Mokwena will give in and take on his first big job or whether he will stay on yet another season on the side as an assistant to Milutin Sredejovic and snub Matsatsantsa.
