PORT ELIZABETH: Following Chippa United’s signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns centre back Thabo Nthethe, they have caught a bigger fish than what they have bargained for in their quest to building a balanced team going into next season.
Nthethe joined the Chilli Boys to end his successful three and a half years spell at Chloorkop where he won league titles and the Caf Champions League in the process. He brings a winning mentality to the Port Elizabeth club which will be vital for a team who are hungry for a cup triumph.
Apart from the winning mentality they have derived in signing the player who is popularly know as “Mr Cool”, they have found strong leadership for their team, considering that he joins at a time where the club has lost a long term steward in Buyani Sali who was one of the senior players at the club.
Nthethe has shown his leadership abilities since his days at Bloemfontein Celtic where he made a name for himself as captain of a team that was hard to beat at home at the time. When he joined Sundowns, he also showed his leadership qualities whenever he was needed.
With the return of Dan Malesela as head coach, Nthethe’s signing is simply one important piece of the jigsaw they are putting together for next season as he will quickly make his way into the team’s set up and Marshall their defense.
Chippa have also confirmed that they are going all out to secure the signature of former Orlando Pirates veteran winger Diane Klate who is out of contract at Bidvest Wits. He would also add much value as he is the biggest medalist in the current generation of South African football.
