How Thohoyandou Stadium Can Work For Leopards

By Isaac Ndou

THOHOYANDOU: Following their promotion to the PSL, Black Leopards are locked in talks on which venue to use in the top flight and they have used Peter Mokaba Stadium in their last stints in the PSL years ago.

However, this time it may be a bit difficult as the Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane will now have to be the home venue of three Limpopo teams, namely Polokwane City, Baroka and Leopards if they do pursue that.
The best option for Lidoda Duvha is to use the Thohoyandou Stadium which they have seen success in most if the time they played there as they become a monster to beat in front of their home fans.
Leopards’ promotion back to the top flight after five years was also influenced by playing at the Stadium in Venda as they won 11 of their 15 games there and only lost on two occasions in the process, making them a dangerous force at the Thohoyandou Stadium.
Their fans in Venda have also been pleading with club owner David Thidiela to not move their home games to Polokwane, which would make them find it hard to travel to the last end of the province to watch their home team play top flight football.
The fans have been going in numbers to the stadium during their NFD campaign which saw them finish second and we’re also ever present when the team played their promotional playoffs, making it sensible for them to keep the team their if they want to stay in the PSL for a long time.
The Thohoyandou Stadium which is right opposite of a newly constructed shopping mall boasts a 28 000 Capacity but for safely regulations can only be allowed to put in 18 000 heads by the PSL.
