PORT ELIZABETH: Tebogo Makobela has expressed his delight following his move to Chippa United from National First Division side Jomo Cosmos where he spent five years.
The 25-year-old right back defender who used to play as a winger has penned a two year deal with the Chilli Boys after Ezenkosi failed to seal promotion to the elite league. Makobela says he is extremely happy to have concluded the deal and can’t wait to link up with his new teammates.
“I still can’t believe the next step I have taken in my career, joining Chippa United. I am very happy, thanks to the Chairman, Mr. Chippa Mpengesi and everyone for making this move possible.
“I am delighted to be a Chilli Boy. I am going to meet my father now to share the news with him. The club has already informed me that we are expected to meet on Saturday, June 16,” said Makobela on Chippa United’s website.
The player who joined Cosmos as a youngster years ago also expressed his gratitude to Cosmos coach and owner Jomo Sono for launching his career and also giving him his blessings to join the Port Elizabeth-based club.
“There was a time when he (Jomo Sono) did not entertain any offers for clubs that were looking for my services. I want to thank him and everyone at Jomo Cosmos for the contribution they have made to my development. I received an encouraging message from Mr. Sono himself wishing me all the best at Chippa United,” he added.
Makobela becomes Chippa’s fourth official signing in the offseason and joins as a possible replacement for Abel Mabaso who has left the Chilli Boys for Orlando Pirates.
