The 2018 FIFA World Cup looks to be one of the most open tournaments in years, with no clear favorite to lift the title in the Luzhniki Stadium on July 15th. Similarly, there is no obvious front-runner to win the coveted Golden Boot award for the competition’s top goalscorer.
Lionel Messi (Argentina and FC Barcelona)
Arguably the best player of all time and 5-time World Player of the Year has reached the 40-goal mark consistently, guiding Spanish giants to several titles time after time.
In addition, Messi ,30, is the all time leading goal scorer for Argentina managing to find the back of the net 64 times in 124 appearances.
Least but not last, the 2018 FIFA World Cup might be Messi’s last chance to win a major trophy with the White and Skye-blue and he surely be looking forward to produce another breathtaking show in Russia to help Argentina achieve a milestone considering their tough opponents.
Neymar Junior (Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain)
Labeled as Brazil’s golden boy and the most expensive football player ever, Neymar, is one of the ideal to win the 2018 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot after he successfully helped the Brazilians to be the first country to book their place in Russia.
Further to above, Neymar is expected to assist Brazil win the 2018 FIFA World Cup after 16-years and he has also led the Brazilians to their first Olympics soccer title after he produced a one-man-show in 2016.
In addition, the 26-year-old has managed to win the French League Player of the Year Award after managing to score 28 goals and provided 16 assists in 28 appearances for the 2017/2018 season.
Antoine Griezman (France and Atletico Madrid)
The 27-year-old is also one of the few forwards to reach the 25-goal mark consistently in every season.
Griezman is expected to produce his UEFA Euro 2016 form after he led his side to the finals against Portugal and was rewarded with a golden boot.
Harry Kane (England and Tottenham Hotspurs)
Having consistently proved that he is not a one season wonder, he will be expected to produce his splendid performances in the 2018 FIFA World Cup with his star studded England.
Indeed, Kane, 24, will be captaining England and is expected to show his abilities at international level after a lot of criticism due to his international level performances. The talented attacker surely has a point to prove!!
Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal and Real Madrid)
Messi’s long time rival, Ronaldo, is also considered as one of the best players of all time after he successfully guided Spanish giants Real Madrid to their third UEFA Champions League consecutively under his former coach Zinedine Zidane who has opted to resign as Real Madrid head coach.
However, the 33-year-old, has a huge advantage over Argentina’s maestro Lionel Messi after he became a protagonist when Portugal lifted the UEFA Euro 2016 title in France.
Mohammed Salah (Egypt and Liverpool)
Salah, 25, is in a form of his life currently after his constant eye-catching performances for the Anfiled based outfit, managing to score 44-goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions for the 2017/2018 season and helping his country to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
