MOSCOW: Brazil and Costa Rica will both want to get their first win of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia when they meet in their second Group E match on Friday afternoon.
The Brazilians got off to a rocky start after they were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Switzerland in their opening group match. They now sit on 2nd position in the group with a point and will go into the game with a win on the back of their minds to show intent in the World Cup.
Costa Rica began their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 loss to Serbia and find d themselves at the bottom of the group. If they lose to the Brazilians, then their World Cup dream will end prematurely in the group stages as they will still be stuck on with only a game remaining.
This will be the 11th meeting between the two sides wherein Brazil have won nine of those encounters and Costa Rica winning once in an international friendly that was played 58 years ago. This will, however, be their third meeting in the World Cup finals.
Brazil who emerges as one of the candidates to win the World Cup will want to capitalize and get a win at the expense of Costa Rica considering that their last group game will not be an easy affair as they will square off with a solid Serbia side.
The match between Brazil and Costa Rica will take place at the Saint Petersburg Stadium on Friday afternoon with kick off scheduled for 14h00.
