MOSCOW: Russia and Uruguay will battle it out for number one spot in group A when they meet in their third matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia on Monday.
Russia has been like a house on fire in the World Cup finals currently lead the group with their superior goal difference after beating Saudi Arabia 5-0 and Egypt 3-1 in the two matches they’ve played already. They will look to continue their form when they meet Uruguay in their home soil.
Uruguay are second in Group A following consecutive wins over Egypt and Saudi Arabia in their opening two group matches to be level on points with the host nation. They will go into the game as the underdogs to a dangerous Russia.
The Russians are the favorites going into the encounter, considering that they have won six of the eight meetings between the two sides, with one resulting in a loss and the other a draw. The two sides have however tasted victory against each other in the World Cup finals.
Uruguay have however won their last two World Cup meetings with European sides with Russia loosing all their last four meetings with South American sides, scoring only once in the process and those stats may just give the Russians more reason to gun for a victory in the game.
The two sides will meet at the Samara Arena on Monday afternoon, kick off scheduled for 16h00.
