JOHANNESBURG: Kaizer Chiefs football Manager Bobby Motaung has confirmed that the club is busy assessing former Mamelodi Sundowns left back and are close to making a decision on the player.
The 29-year-old former Bidvest Wits man fell out of Pitso Mosimane’s favour and his contract was prematurely terminated by Sundowns a while ago but he, however, won the legal battle and saw of the rest of his contract. He has been training at Naturena where the technical team are busy assessing him according to Bobby Motaung.
“We have Mzi with us for training while the Technical Team have a look at him. We will see how it goes and a final decision on him will be made in due course,” said Motaung on the club’s website.
Patrick Mabedi had indicated that their 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Shell Helix Cup last weekend had helped them identify the need to sign a left back ahead of the new season and Mashaba could be their man as he is a free agent.
“We are looking at bolstering the left side of our play. We know what he can offer but he has been out of action for a while and with our new coach (Giovanni Solinas) also coming in, we want to make informed decisions before finalising anything,” he added.
Chiefs will kick-start their 2018/2019 Absa Premiership campaign against Mashaba’s former team and League Champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the Loftus Versveld Stadium in Pretoria on August 4 2018 with kick off set for 15h00.
